The health benefits of herbs are amazing, including the herb thyme. Thyme is an herb that I tried out on one of our children when they had a cold. I wanted to see if it really made much of a difference with relieving his symptoms, and sure enough it did.

I made an herbal tea with some thyme I had saved. It was simple. I just took the dried leaves put them in a mug, poured in boiling water, and steeped for about 5 minutes. Of all the remedies, natural of course, that I had tried on him, he said this one was the most effective.

When adding it to tea add some raw honey for a sweeter flavor since thyme can sometimes be quite strong. Raw honey of course gives you an even more effective health remedy with its immune boosting, antibacterial, and easing sore throat abilities as well.

The reason I chose thyme is because I knew it was good for inflammation, respiratory, and good in building the immune system. Who doesn’t need to build their immune system, right?

So what else is so great about thyme? Let’s look.

Thyme has been used for centuries. It’s been an herb that’s been used for its medicinal benefits by the Romans and in all of ancient history.

Thyme supports the immune, respiratory, digestive, and nervous systems, as well as other parts of the body.
  • It’s no wonder it helped my son with that nasty cold because it’s good at fighting sore throats. It has a nice flavor, so adding it to soups or making tea is a great way to soothe a sore throat.
  • Thyme is also great at boosting the mood, and again, who doesn’t want that?
  • Thyme helps the body get rid of indigestion and digest food better. Just add it to your food to help with those not so easy digestible foods.
  • Thyme can help calm the nerves and alleviate stress, although there are other herbs that are more effective at this, thyme is still beneficial.
  • Thyme is used to help treat coughs and bronchitis.
When using thyme fresh in the summer months, toss some onto salads, soups, and tea. During the winter months, use dried thyme in any foods desirable, but remember you don’t have to use as much dried thyme as fresh.

Use the ratio: 3 teaspoons fresh = 1 teaspoon dried.

**For pregnant or nursing women, be sure and check with your physician first.

List of benefits:
Pain relief of cramps, headaches, and other body aches
Respiratory ailments
Oral health
Inflammation
Food contamination prevention and remediation
Depression
Microbial and food preservative
Good for immune system
Endocrine
Thymus as it activates it

All the best!
