Have you ever looked at ingredient labels? Yikes! Me too! Many years ago I remember when I started reading ingredient labels and wondering why I couldn’t understand what in the world was in my food. What is that? And why is it in a can of green beans? Or in a can of chili? Some people just put off the excuse to just, well ya know, “eat in moderation”. No, not me, but I’ll explain that one later. So I started looking more and more at ingredient labels. Gees Louise! I began cutting out foods that were pre-packaged “for” me that had anything in it that was suspicious or that was blatantly unhealthy. There are so many ingredients such as, hydrogenated soybean oil, high fructose corn syrup, corn syrup, etc. that are unhealthy. Unfortunately, I do know what corn syrup is because growing up my family would occasionally pour it on our pancakes instead of maple syrup. Then again, maple syrup’s not good either unless it’s 100% Pure Maple Syrup. So what is healthy? Well, if you want an “easy” way to find the best, healthy foods, start with foods that are the closest to the way they were created. For example, if I want tomato sauce for spaghetti or pizza, then I make it from organic tomatoes instead of using canned tomato sauce. Just add oregano spices, thyme, Italian spices, some extra virgin olive oil, sea salt (NOT from the grocery store), and other pure ingredients and you’ve got the best tasting and healthiest tomato sauce you may have ever tasted! Happy ingredient checking! ~ Julie
